A: The payment deadline all depends on how tenants respond to your charges. Every case has its own unique circumstances. However, we've outlined several examples below to explain.

Example 1: Tenant accepts charge

  • The red dot represents the point at which the landlord submits their charge (in this instance, of £100)
  • The tenants in this example accept the charge and pay four days after it's made
  • 10 days later (our standard period for reviewing and processing payments), on day 14 after the charge is made, the landlord receives payment in full.

Example 2: Tenant sends counter  

  • The red dot represents the point at which the landlord submits their charge (in this instance, of £100)
  • Two days later, the tenants submit a counter offer of £50 
  • Two days later, on day 4 after the initial charge was made, the agent accepts the tenant's counter offer
  • 10 days later, on day 14 after the initial charge was made, the landlord receives payment in full. 

Example 3: Tenants don't respond and charge is assigned to flatfair 

  • The red dot represents the point at which the landlord submits their charge (in this instance, of £100)
  • By day 10, the tenants still haven't responded
  • flatfair automatically charges tenants the £100
  • On day 20, payment is unsuccessful and the landlord assigns the charge to flatfair
  • On day 30, flatfair makes full payment to the landlord.

Example 4: Tenant raises a dispute and charge is assigned to flatfair

  • The red dot represents the point at which the landlord submits their charge (in this instance, of £100)
  • Two days later, the tenants dispute the charge and it goes to Independent Dispute Resolution
  • On day 10 after the initial charge is made, the independent adjudicator deems the case in the landlord's favour
  • The tenants are invoiced for the £100 but fail to pay
  • On day 20, the landlord assigns the charge to flatfair
  • On day 30, flatfair makes full payment to the landlord.
